Bibiani GoldStars head coach Frimpong Manso has underlined the importance of self-belief as his side prepares to face Algerian heavyweights JS Kabylie in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Ghanaian champions have shifted base to the capital after their traditional ground, Dun’s Park, failed to meet CAF’s hosting standards.
Manso, who guided the team to their maiden Ghana Premier League title last season, insists that mental strength will be as vital as tactics against one of North Africa’s most experienced clubs.
“We need to have confidence in ourselves,” he told Joy Sports.
“Sometimes you may have a good team, but if they don’t believe in themselves, if they don’t believe in their ability, they cannot move forward. So this time around, we need to make sure they understand all these things.”
GoldStars, who opened their title defence with a win over Bechem United, are banking on their preparation and composure to seize an early advantage in Accra before the second leg in Algeria.
Saturday’s encounter will be their sternest test yet.
