Thomas Partey has lamented over Villarreal's missed chances after their defeat to Atletico Madrid in La Liga following his return to the Wanda Metropolitano.
The Ghana international returned to Spain in the summer transfer window to join the Yellow Submarines and was handed his first start against his former club.
However, goals in each half from Pablo Barriors and Nicolas Gonzales inflicted Villarreal with their first defeat of the season.
"I think it was a difficult game for us even though we created good chances to be able to be leading but it is part of football. Sometimes you don't take your chances and you concede from a goal that you play back is an error that shouldn't happen but it is part of football. We have to learn from this and keep learning," he told Sporty TV.
Despite the defeat, Partey picked some positives from the game and believes Villarreal will be more effective if they take their chances.
"I think the chances we created and how we pressed, we should be more decisive in the final third. The positive thing is we now know each other. I just joined the team and I think we did a great job today even though we did not get the win, we just have to keep working," he added.
Partey will be returning to London in midweek for the UEFA Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspurs.
He is the player with the most appearances (44) in the competition in the current Villarreal squad.
