Athletic Club captain Iñaki Williams has pledged that his team will fight to keep their Champions League dream alive as they prepare to host Arsenal in their long-awaited return to Europe's elite competition.
The Basque side makes its first appearance in the tournament since the 2014/15 season when they welcome the Premier League giants to a packed San Mamés on matchday one.
Williams, appointed club captain ahead of this campaign, acknowledged the significance of the occasion while outlining their tactical approach against Mikel Arteta's side.
"For years we have fought to be where we are," Williams stated at his pre-match press conference. "Tomorrow, we are going to fight to keep the dream alive for as long as possible."
The Ghana international emphasised the need for clinical efficiency against formidable opponents: "We are playing against a great team, one that shows no mercy. We have to make the most of the chances we get."
Williams highlighted their home advantage as potentially decisive, revealing their game plan: "At San Mamés, we always have our moment, and the key will be to make the most of it. We will try to stifle them in their own half, break up their play in midfield and finish off moves quickly, with the support of our fans."
The Basque club enters the historic match following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Alavés in La Liga, adding urgency to their quest for a positive result against the English side.
Williams' leadership and attacking threat will be crucial as Athletic Club seeks to make a statement on their return to Europe's biggest stage.
