Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has described the state of sports infrastructure in the country as unsatisfactory following an inspection of major facilities.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, the Minister said his recent tour of the Borteyman Complex, Baba Yara Stadium and the Youth Resource Centre in Nyinahin left him concerned about the general condition of facilities across the country.
“Well, the current state of sports infrastructure is not good. I am not impressed with the availability of infrastructure,” Adams said. “We are looking to having a new stadium around our Borteyman space because we want to elevate that whole place to a sports city, a sports village.”
The Minister revealed plans to construct a new stadium with a minimum capacity of 50,000, describing the project as achievable within President John Mahama’s first term.
The Borteyman Sports Complex, one of the facilities assessed by the Minister, was built to host the 2023 African Games in Accra.
