Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has announced plans by government to construct a new stadium at Borteyman as part of efforts to improve the country’s sporting infrastructure.
Speaking in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Adams described the current state of facilities as unsatisfactory and stressed the need for bold investment.
“We are looking to having a new stadium around our Borteyman space because we want to elevate that whole place into a sports city, a sports village,” he said.
The Minister disclosed that the project will have a minimum capacity of 50,000 seats, adding that it is “doable” within President John Mahama’s first term in office.
The proposed facility is expected to complement the Borteyman Sports Complex, which was constructed to host the 2023 African Games in Accra, and to serve as a hub for both domestic and international events.
