Mali head coach Tom Saintfiet has described Ghana as one of Africa’s true football giants, insisting their status is not diminished by missing out on the next Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars failed to book a ticket to the continental showpiece, sparking criticism back home, but Saintfiet believes their pedigree remains unquestionable.
“Ghana will always be a giant in African and international football. Failing to qualify for AFCON doesn’t change that,” Saintfiet told Adom TV.
The Belgian coach recently faced Otto Addo’s side in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, losing 1-0 in Accra. Despite the setback, he maintains admiration for Ghana’s football tradition and record.
Saintfiet, who has coached across Africa and Asia, added that Ghana’s rich history and consistency at the highest level will always set them apart on the continent.
