Former Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has offered a tactical analysis of Mali's national team while expressing skepticism about Otto Addo's capacity to lead Ghana at the 2026 World Cup should the Black Stars qualify.
Though Ghana sits atop Group I with 19 points and needs just one victory from its final two matches to secure qualification, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu identified Mali as the strongest opponent in the group, noting their technical and physical qualities.
"I see Mali as the strongest opponent in our group; unfortunately, they did not start the qualification series well. It is too late for them to secure qualification," he stated during an interview with Wontumi Radio.
The politician’s comments came with a critical assessment of Black Stars coach Otto Addo, suggesting that despite likely qualification, he lacks the tactical expertise to guide Ghana effectively at the World Cup level.
"I’m sure Ghana is going to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but Otto Addo is not a coach who can lead us to the tournament," he asserted.
His analysis underscores a broader concern among some observers that while Ghana may emerge from the qualifiers, the team’s inconsistent performances raise questions about its readiness for the global stage.
The Black Stars will finish their qualifying campaign with an away match against Central African Republic on October 8, followed by a home game against Comoros on October 11.
