Ghana midfielder Baba Iddrisu has finally returned to action for UD Almeria, 286 days after suffering a serious injury that kept him on the sidelines since November 2024.
The 29-year-old marked his comeback during AlmerÃa’s trip to Anoeta for their Spanish Segunda Division clash against Real Sociedad B, a game that carried special significance for the player who had been out of competitive football for more than nine months.
Baba’s injury occurred on November 26, 2024, in a home fixture against Cordoba, a setback that forced him into a lengthy recovery process.
The midfielder’s absence was a big blow to Almeria, but his determination and hard work have now been rewarded with a return to the pitch.
Local outlet La Voz de AlmerÃa described the moment as “very emotional,” with Baba regaining his smile and confidence as he aims to establish himself again as a key figure for the club this season.
Head coach Rubi expressed optimism about Baba’s role moving forward:
“He has to be used, one day he will be used,” the coach said, signalling that the Ghanaian is set to gradually reclaim his place in the team.
Baba’s return is a major boost for Almeria as they seek to fight for promotion back to La Liga.
The player himself is focused on rediscovering his best form and contributing significantly to the club’s ambitions.
The former Mallorca man has also been a consistent figure for the Ghana national team in recent years, and his comeback will be closely monitored by Black Stars selectors ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
