Hearts of Oak head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani has applauded the organisers of the Democracy Cup, describing the timing of this year’s edition as ideal for his side’s preparations.
The Phobians are scheduled to face city rivals Great Olympics on September 5 at the University of Ghana Stadium in the second edition of the annual fixture, which is held to celebrate Ghana’s democratic credentials.
The game comes just a week before the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season kicks off, providing both clubs with a competitive test ahead of the new campaign.
Dramani, who was previously outspoken about the scheduling of the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, believes the Democracy Cup fits well into his team’s preseason programme.
“First of all, I would like to thank the organisers for scheduling the Democracy Match event around this period,” he said.
“It gives you the opportunity to really bring your players to test in terms of the periodisation calendar. We are in a phase where you have to be playing high-profile games, and so the Olympics is a high-profile club⦠that rivalry is something that cannot be underestimated, irrespective of which level the two teams find themselves.”
The coach added that Hearts are confident of approaching the contest with the right energy and commitment.
Preparations were further boosted on Thursday after Twellium Industrial Company donated cartons of water and energy drinks to the squad at Pobiman.
