Defensive midfielder Elisha Owusu is set to make a return to the Black Stars as the team gears up for their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Chad early next month.
The AJ Auxerre captain has missed recent national assignments, including the victories over Chad and Madagascar in March and the Unity Cup matches against Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago in May.
His absence was felt in midfield, where coach Otto Addo relied on several young options to fill the gap.
Now back to full fitness and playing consistently in France, Owusu’s return comes at the right time for Ghana.
The 26-year-old has been a standout performer for Auxerre in Ligue 1, leading his side with authority and delivering the kind of midfield stability the Black Stars can benefit from.
He has played all two league games since the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.
Known for his ball-winning qualities, tidy passing, and calm leadership, Owusu is expected to provide balance alongside Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Salis Abdul Samed.
His experience could prove vital when Ghana travel to Chad before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana will secure qualification spot for next year's World Cup if they claim victories in the two crunchy fixtures.
