Richmond Tachie came off the bench to make his mark for Kaiserslautern, but it was not enough to stop a painful defeat to Elversberg in Bundesliga 2 on Friday evening.
Played at the URSAPHARM-Arena an der Kaiserlinde, the game was tense and even, with both sides pushing hard. Elversberg struck first in the 43rd minute when Luca Schnellbacher fired home from close range, giving the hosts a narrow lead at the break.
Kaiserslautern responded in the second half with more urgency. The introduction of German-Ghanaian forward Richmond Tachie in the 72nd minute added fresh energy. Just seven minutes later, he calmly converted a penalty, sending the ball low into the bottom corner to draw the visitors level.
With the match heading towards a draw, Elversberg struck a cruel late winner. In the 92nd minute, Frederik Schmahl bundled in from a corner to secure all three points for the home side.
The defeat leaves Kaiserslautern searching for answers, but Tachie’s impact was a bright spot. They now prepare to face Darmstadt on August 31.
