Dutch-born Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku is on the verge of sealing a high-profile move from AZ Alkmaar to German Bundesliga giants Bayer 04 Leverkusen, with both clubs having reached an agreement over the transfer.
The deal, reported to be worth around 10 million Euros, will see the 21-year-old sign a contract until 2030 once he completes his medical.
Poku, who is eligible to represent both the Netherlands and Ghana at international level, has been in fine form for AZ.
He has already featured in three UEFA Conference League qualifiers this summer, finding the back of the net in one of them.
Known for his blistering pace and direct style of play, Poku has scored three goals and provided six assists in 47 Eredivisie appearances.
He also impressed at the U-21 European Championship in Slovakia, netting twice in five games for the Dutch U-21 side.
Leverkusen see Poku as the ideal replacement for Jeremie Frimpong, who recently joined Liverpool.
In Eric ten Hag's 3-4-3 system, the Dutch-born Ghanaian is expected to occupy the right flank, where his speed and dribbling ability can stretch opposition defences.
If all goes according to plan, Poku could make his debut in next Friday’s DFB-Pokal first-round clash against SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach.
