Legal representation for sports journalist Saddick Adams and Angel Broadcasting Network has been withdrawn in the ongoing defamation lawsuit filed by former Ghana international John Paintsil.
Sources close to Crabbe & Co, the law firm previously handling the case, have confirmed that they are no longer representing the two defendants.
John Paintsil is demanding a total of GHS25 million in damages—GHS20 million from Angel FM and GHS5 million from Saddick Adams—over alleged defamatory comments made on the station’s platforms. The comments, according to Paintsil, have caused substantial harm to his reputation.
The withdrawal of Crabbe & Co from the matter means both defendants are currently without legal counsel in the proceedings. Court records also indicate that, in non-compliance with the orders of the court, neither Saddick Adams nor Angel Broadcasting Network has filed their witness statements in the ongoing suit.
Legal observers note that, should new legal representation not be secured before the next hearing, the defendants may be required to appear personally to respond to the claims.
The absence of their witness statements could also affect the presentation of their case, as the matter is scheduled to continue in court in October 2025.
This development adds a new dimension to what has become a closely followed legal dispute between a prominent media house, a well-known journalist, and a former national football star.
Paintsil has maintained that he is seeking to vindicate his reputation through lawful means.
