Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has credited the Ghana Football Association’s strategic planning as a key reason behind the Black Queens’ bronze medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during a special address in honour of the team, Ussif defended the GFA’s contribution, stating that their long-term investment and structured support played a central role in the team’s success.
The former minister’s remarks were made in the presence of the Black Queens, who visited Parliament following their return from Morocco.
“The Black Queens’ performance in Morocco did not just happen by accident. It’s as a result of many factors including meticulous planning by the GFA,” Ussif stated.
“I have worked very closely with the GFA and I know what they’ve put in, in terms of promotion of women’s football.”
Ghana secured third place at the continental tournament after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over South Africa â their first WAFCON medal since 2016.
