President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has backed the Black Queens after finishing in third place at the just-ended 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament.
After a rocky start, Ghana defeated South Africa on a penalty shootout to clinch a bronze medal for the first time since 2016.
Following a visit to the Jubilee House on Tuesday, Mahama praised the team for their effort and encouraged them to stay focused.
“All is not lost yet, your best days are still ahead of you, there are many other games to play, and I am sure that this is an experience that you will take as part of the conditioning to rise to higher heights, and so we are all going to support you," he said.
The Black Queens kicked off their tournament with a defeat against South Africa before drawing with Mali.
In the final Group C game, the Queens recorded a resounding win over Tanzania to book a place in the last eight.
Ghana eliminated Algeria in the quarterfinals to make it to the semifinals. However, the chances of the team playing in the final were dashed after losing to hosts Morocco in the semis.
The team then settled for a third place after beating Bayana Bayana on a penalty shootout to claim the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, before the visit to the Jubilee House, the Black Queens were celebrated in Parliament on Tuesday.
