Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjrkegren says his team must move on from the opening day defeat to South Africa and shift full focus to their crucial second group game against Mali at the 2024 Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).Ghana will face Mali on Thursday, July 11, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, needing a positive result to keep qualification hopes alive after a 2-0 loss to Banyana Banyana in their first match.Speaking ahead of the Mali clash, Bjrkegren insisted his side put in a strong performance against the reigning champions despite the outcome.[Against South Africa] it wasnt the result that we wanted, but at the same time we played against a very good team. In a big period of the game, we were the better team, he told the media.We had more shots, more shots on goal, more corners, and we hit the bar twice. They had one VAR penalty and scored. But we need to leave that game behind now and make sure we perform even better against Mali.Mali currently sit second in Group C after beating Tanzania, and a win for Ghana is vital if the Black Queens are to advance to the next round.
