Hearts of Oak slapped with fresh transfer ban over unpaid debt to former player
Hearts of Oak have been hit with a second transfer ban just days after clearing a $38,000 settlement with New Edubiase United, which had led to the lifting of an earlier ban imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).This latest sanction follows the clubs failure to meet a July 7, 2025, deadline to pay over GHS 106,000 to former player Francis Adjetey, as directed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The GFAs Disciplinary Committee enforced the CAS ruling on June 24, 2025, ordering Hearts to pay GHS 106,477.42 plus 5% annual interest from September 15, 2023, along with $1,250 in legal costs.According to JoySports, the club had requested to settle the amount in three tranches, with a proposed first payment date of Friday, July 11, 2025. However, Adjetey reportedly rejected the offer, insisting on full payment upfront. The situation mirrors a recent dispute involving New Edubiase United, who demanded $70,000 from Hearts, $50,000 as the outstanding balance on Salim Adams' transfer and $20,000 from a failed onward move to FC Cincinnati. After missing a May 31 deadline, a GFA-imposed transfer ban followed but was lifted after Hearts paid a revised $38,000 settlement.Despite efforts by Managing Director Delali Anku Adiamah to reach a new agreement with Adjetey, no breakthrough had been made as of Wednesday, July 9, 2025.The new transfer ban remains in place until the full amount is paid.
