Put AFCON qualification disappointment behind you - President Mahama tells Black Stars
President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Black Stars not to be worried after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.The four-time African champions for the first time in two decades will not compete at the AFCON which is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco later this year having finished at the bottom of its group.Following a visit to the team at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, Mahama encouraged the players to forget the disappointment of the 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign and focus on redeeming themselves in the upcoming games against Chad and Madagascar.Before you start the qualifiers, lets put the AFCON debacle behind us and look forward, knowing that we can redeem ourselves, he said.I know that in the World Cup qualifiers, youre going to redeem yourselves. And if we play well, we will qualify, he added.He also stressed the importance of strong performances in winning back the trust and support of Ghanaians.Ghanaians will find it in their hearts to come fully behind the team again. And I know you can do it. Youre all talented players, he said.Were going to continue to support you, not only for the World Cup but beyond. We think that we must build a very strong team, he added.The Black Stars will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before travelling to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday, March 24, in their Matchday 5 and 6 qualifiers.Having missed out on AFCON 2025, the team is now focused on redeeming themselves and securing qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
