Bayern Munich legend Sammy Kuffour has strongly criticised former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher over his recent remarks downplaying the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a major tournament.
Carragher suggested that AFCON and other continental tournaments should not hold as much weight in the Ballon dOr discussions, a comment that sparked widespread backlash.
The former England international later clarified that he did not intend to disrespect the competition.
However, Kuffour, a former Bayern Munich defender, insists that Carragher must apologise to Africans for his statement.
Jamie Carragher has to apologise to all African people because AFCON is not a normal tournament, Kuffour said on Sporty FM.
Africa has given us the best of the best. Africa has produced a Ballon dOr winner.
The ex-Black Stars defender further questioned Carraghers credentials, suggesting that his Liverpool career was due to his birthplace rather than his talent.
What has Jamie Carragher achieved? If he wasnt born in Liverpool, he would not have had the chance to play for Liverpool, Kuffour added.
If we mention the best 2,000 defenders in the world, Jamie Carragher will not be part of them. Hes nothing. He just talks. He should be ashamed of himself.
