
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has highlighted Africas growing presence in world football, pointing to the continents increased representation at major FIFA tournaments.
Speaking at the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, he stressed how African teams and players are making their mark on the global stage.
We are making sure that Africans can have a bigger say on the world scene, Infantino said. For the first time in history, there will be nine or maybe even 10 African countries at the next FIFA World Cup in 2026this is double what we had before.
He also noted that Africas representation at the Womens World Cup and youth competitions has expanded, giving more teams the chance to compete at the highest level.
On club football, Infantino pointed to Africas strong presence in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. There will be four African clubsAl Ahly, Wydad, Esperance, and Mamelodi Sundowns. And across the tournament, 147 African players from 22 countries will be competing for 16 clubs from five continents.
His remarks reflect FIFAs commitment to giving African football a bigger platform, with CAF pushing for more opportunities on the world stage.
