Nations FC defender Christopher Nettey blames journalists for Black Stars snub of local players
Nations FC defender Christopher Nettey has pointed fingers at journalists for the dwindling presence of home-based players in the Black Stars, arguing that negative reports about the Ghana Premier League (GPL) are influencing selection decisions.Speaking on the issue, Nettey expressed his frustration over how the local league is portrayed in the media.I blame some journalists. You see comments about our GPL that are, to say the least, disgusting. They praise other leagues while disparaging ours, he said on Akoma FM.What you portray outside is what people believe. If you keep saying our league is bad or dead, how do you expect the Black Stars coach to call a player from such a league? He further noted that such negative narratives hurt the league's reputation, making it difficult to attract sponsors and recognition. With Ghana coach Otto Addo set to name his squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, it remains to be seen how many local players will make the list. Ghana will host Chad in Accra on March 21 before travelling to face Madagascar four days later.
