2026 World Cup qualifiers: Promising striker Jerry Afriyie eyes Black Stars call-up ahead of Chad, Madagascar games
[caption id=attachment_1218927 align=alignnone width=720] Jerry Afriyie[/caption]CD Lugo forward Jerry Afriyie says he will be elated to earn a call-up to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.The former Thought FC striker earned his maiden call up to the senor nationa team ahead of Black Stars final game against Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in November.The promising striker grabbed the headlines after scoring in a cameo appearance despite the Black Stars losing 2-1.Having won gold during the All African Games, Afiyie was also central to Ghana qualifying for the U-20 AFCON, where he was named Player of the Tournament and Top scorer.In the ongoing season, Afriyie, who is on loan from parent club Al Qadisiyah, has scored twice for CD Lugo.Quizzed if he is aiming to play for the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, Afriyie told 3Sports, I will be very happy and glad if they called me because there is more [goals] on the way coming.Ghana currently lie second in Group I with nine points and are on course to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after a dismal AFCON qualifiers campaign.The Black Stars will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT. They will then travel to Morocco for a clash against Madagascar at the Grand Stade d'Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24, all in the Matchday five and six games.
