Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, chairman of Asante Kotokos Interim Management Committee, has criticized the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) for failing to protect the welfare of football clubs.
He made these remarks during a meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) earlier this week, which was attended by GHALCA chairman, John Ansah.
The comments were in response to the recent killing of Francis Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, who was fatally stabbed on February 2, 2025, during a week 19 Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman. The tragic incident happened amidst chaotic scenes both on and off the field.
Addressing Mr. Ansah, Nana Apinkra expressed disappointment in GHALCAs leadership.
Mr. Ansah, it has not been long since you came into office, but I have noticed that GHALCA is not fighting for the interest of clubs, Apinkra said.We dont see you at all. You should have come here before the IGP. As for the GFA, they are just an organizing body. You are the body that should be fighting for our welfare.GHALCA should have been the first to ask us, When you went, what happened? But you didnt. The GFA has introduced stringent safety measures, including the appointment of Club Safety and Security Officers and the installation of CCTV cameras at match venues.Non-compliance with these protocols will result in stiff penalties, including fines of GH20,000 and venue bans, reinforcing the GFA's commitment to a safer football experience for all stakeholders.
