Ghanaian midfielder David Abagna played a crucial role for APOEL on Thursday night, finding the back of the net in their UEFA Conference League clash against Celje.
His goal helped the Cypriot side secure a valuable 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Round of 32 encounter.
APOEL faced an early setback when Armandas Kucys pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area, slotting it past the goalkeeper to give Celje the lead in just the second minute.
However, David Abagna responded in style in the 32nd minute, finishing off a well-worked team move with a precise low strike into the bottom right corner, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
Celje had a chance to regain their advantage from the penalty spot in the 59th minute, but Vid Belec produced a brilliant save. Unfortunately for APOEL, Kucys reacted quickest to the rebound and restored Celjes lead.
The visitors, however, refused to back down. In the 70th minute, Konstantinos Laifis rose highest inside the six-yard box to meet a corner kick, powering home a header to level the score at 2-2.
David Abagna played 83 minutes of the game tonight and earned a high rating of 7.3. He will be key for his team heading into the reverse fixture next week.
