Kim Lars Bjorkegren arrives arrives in Ghana to begin Black Queens tenure
Swedish coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren arrived in Ghana on Wednesday February 12, 2025, to begin his new job as head of the country's Black Queens.He was met on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport by representatives of the Football Association.Bjorkegren, a seasoned coach with nearly two decades of experience, takes over from Nora Huptle, whose tenure ended in December 2024 following the expiration of her contract with the GFA.The Ghana Football Association confirmed the appointment of the European on Tuesday, January 14, to lead the team into a new chapter.Bjorkegren's journey in football began as a player in his hometown club in Ljungsbro, Sweden, and later with Allsvenska Atvidabergs FF, then a top-flight Swedish side.However, an injury at the age of 22 cut short his playing career, leading him to pivot into coaching, a decision that has since defined his professional life.Armed with a UEFA License A coaching certificate, Bjorkegren has built an impressive CV over over 18 years, coaching both domestically in Sweden and internationally.Among his notable achievements is guiding Apollon Ladies to a league title in Cyprus and clinching the Damallsvenskan championship with Linkping FC in Sweden.His excellence in the 2020-2021 season earned him the Coach of the Season accolade in Cyprus.He is now taking charge of the Black Queens and will be expected to continue the excellent work done by coach Nora Hauptle before her departure.
