The Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairman of Asante Kotoko, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, has expressed frustration with the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) decision not to thoroughly investigate the fatal stabbing of supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong.
Instead, the GFA is focusing on issuing fines to clubs, including those not involved in the tragedy.
The stabbing incident, which occurred during matchday 19 of the Ghana Premier League, led to the arrest of Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
However, Asante Kotoko has questioned why the GFA has not launched a formal investigation into Baffour Awuahs role in the events leading to the fatality.
Speaking at a meeting with the GFA on Tuesday, Nana Apinkra expressed the club's disappointment.
I was expecting that by this time the GFA would have probed into the whole situation including Ignatius Baffour Awuah who incited the fans against us.But you [GFA] are only issuing fines, to the extent you are fining people who were not even involved. It's as if you don't care. We are angry because it's painful. It's very painful, he said.In addition to expressing concerns over the incident, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak jointly presented a reform proposal to the GFA.The proposal included demands for a greater share of TV broadcast revenues, permanent representation on the GFA executive committee, and stricter enforcement of security and club licensing regulations.
