Former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Chairman, Joseph Yaw Appiah, has strongly criticized the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), questioning their effectiveness and accusing them of being self-serving.
Since Kurt Okraku took office as GFA President in 2019, the administration has struggled to achieve significant success. However, recent scrutiny has intensified following the decline in performances across the countrys national teams.
The criticism reached new heights after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking their first absence from the tournament since 2004.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Appiah did not hold back in his assessment of the GFA's leadership.
Is there any leadership at the GFA?, Appiah quizzed during an interview with Joy Sports. They are self-centred, close circuit. Whatever they say, nobody can challenge it, he explained. He further expressed disappointment over the current state of Ghanaian football.
When you sit down and watch things going on, at times you become sad. When you talk, they will call you to Ethics Committee.Look at the performance of the Black Stars, [other] national teams, do what is good if you don't want people to talk.Appiah also claimed that fear of reprisal has silenced many in the football fraternity.
Everybody is afraid to talk [including Team Managers] because if you talk, your team will go [to] relegation, he added.
