Asante Kotoko criticise GFA over handling of fan stabbing incident
The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has strongly criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for its response to the fatal stabbing of a club supporter, Nana Pooley, during their match against Nsoatreman FC on matchday 19.During a meeting with the GFA on Tuesday, Kotoko questioned why the association had not launched an investigation into Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who was arrested and charged by the Ghana Police for his alleged involvement in the incident.Asante Kotoko IMC Chairman, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, expressed the clubs frustration over what he described as a lack of urgency from the GFA.I was expecting that by this time the GFA would have probed into the whole situation including Ignatius Baffour Awuah who incited the fans against us.But you [GFA] are only issuing fines, to the extent you are fining people who were not even involved. It's as if you don't care. We are angry because it's painful. It's very painful, he said.On Monday, Kotoko and Hearts of Oak submitted a joint proposal to the GFA, demanding a larger share of TV broadcast revenue, permanent seats on the GFA Executive Committee, and improved security measures. The two clubs stressed the need for urgent reforms to improve the leagues structure, particularly in security and club licensing regulations, as they push for greater accountability from the GFA.
