Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have announced plans to formally report Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
The Porcupine Warriors accuse her of mishandling investigations into the fatal stabbing of supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The clubs Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to remove Donkor from the case, citing bias and disputing her claim that the attack occurred outside the stadium.
The controversy arises from DCOP Donkors statement during a JoySports interview that Pooley was stabbed outside Nana Koronamansah Park during a February 2 league match against Nsoatreman FC and was later transported to the stadium via tricycle.
Kotoko officials and fans reject this account, insisting the violence occurred inside the stadium.
We will officially report Lydia Donkor to the IGP, and we want the GFA to remove her from the case because she was appointed by you people, Apinkra declared during a meeting with the GFA.The GFA had initially tasked Donkor, head of its Security Committee, to lead a probe into the incident, which also involved property damage and multiple injuries .While seven suspects have been arrested, including Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour-Awuah (granted bail), Kotoko argue the investigation lacks transparency.
