Forward Patrick Agyemang explains decision to choose USA over Ghana
[caption id=attachment_1222741 align=alignnone width=1920] Patrick Agyemang[/caption]US-born forward of Ghanaian descent, Patrick Agyemang, has revealed that a lack of contact with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) influenced his decision to represent the United States instead of the Black Stars. The 24-year-old made his debut for the US Mens National Team last month, scoring in a 3-1 friendly victory over Venezuela. Despite being eligible to play for Ghana through his parents, Agyemang said the USMNT made the first move, securing his commitment.I grew up in a Ghana household and watched Black Stars games all the time, he told Flashscore. I love the passion Asamoah Gyan always showed, and growing up, youd love to be a part of that.I tried not to think about it too much, but when the USMNT call came, my family was the happiest thing ever.My family urged me to play wherever I feel comfortable, and obviously, I was born in the USA and live there. I was never around the Ghana national team or anything like that. So I never really was in contact with them.Agyemang has been in fine form for Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC, where he scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 34 league games last season, helping the team secure a fifth-place finish in the Eastern Conference.
