Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak unite for vigil honoring 'Pooley'
In a heartfelt display of unity, rival Ghanaian football clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak came together in Kumasi to honor the late Francis Yaw Frimpong, affectionately known as Pooley.The vigil, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, saw fans and leaders from both clubs holding candles in solidarity. Hearts of Oak representatives joined the ceremony, standing alongside their rivals to pay their respects.Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, tragically lost his life after being fatally stabbed during a violent altercation following the club's Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Kromansah Park. The incident led to the arrest of four suspects: Isaac Fosu, 28; Augustine Yeboah, 35; Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwa, 37; and Yaa Asantewaa, 37. They were charged with abetment of crime and murder under sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960 (Act 29).Addressing supporters during the vigil, Asante Kotoko IMC chief Nana Apinkra cautioned against acting on hearsay as police continue their investigations. It's been a week since Pooley's death. The matter is with national security. The IGP has promised to help us. We are pleased with what he has done in the past week, he stated. He urged fans to allow the law to take its course and to provide any pertinent information to assist in the investigation.The vigil served as a poignant reminder of the need for unity and peace within the football community, transcending traditional rivalries to honor a fallen supporter.
