Hearts of Oak and Kotoko seek permanent seat on GFA Executive Council
Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have formally requested a permanent seat on the Ghana Football Associations (GFA) Executive Council as part of proposals aimed at reforming the countrys football governance. The two clubs, Ghanas most successful, are pushing for key regulatory changes following the tragic death of a Kotoko supporter after a Ghana Premier League match. They are calling for enhanced security at stadiums and a stronger role in decision-making at the GFA.In a joint statement, both clubs emphasised the need for guaranteed representation on the Executive Council, which currently has 12 members, including the GFA President, five Premier League representatives, three from Division One, one from the Womens Premier League, and two from the Regional Football Associations. At present, Asante Kotoko is represented by James Kwasi Appiah, while Hearts of Oak failed to secure a seat in the last elections. The clubs have proposed either expanding the council to 14 members or ensuring two of the five Premier League seats are reserved for them. The GFA has yet to respond, but any structural change would require approval from Congress, meaning Hearts and Kotoko will need broader support from the football community to push their proposal through.
