FIFA Club World Cup trophy arrives in Africa as continent's representatives prepare for historic tournament
The newly designed FIFA Club World Cup trophy has arrived on African soil as part of its global tour with just months to go before African clubs face the worlds best at the expanded tournament in the United States,The expanded 32-team competition, set for June 14 to July 13, 2025, will feature four African powerhousesAl Ahly SC (Egypt), Esprance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), and Wydad AC (Morocco).Mamelodi Sundowns had the honour of hosting the trophys first stop in Africa on January 8, with club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, the technical team, and the entire squad welcoming the silverware.There is a saying in isiZulu that goes, one hand washes the other. Just as this trophy will inspire many South Africans and Africans through its prestige, we will also ensure that it carries the spirit of Africa, said Motsepe.Sundowns, making their second FIFA Club World Cup appearance after their 2016 debut in Japan, are drawn in Group F alongside Borussia Dortmund, Fluminense, and Ulsan HD.The trophys African tour continues in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday before heading to Tunisia and Morocco, where it will be received by ES Tunis and Wydad AC, respectively.
