We hope government accept Winfried Schäferâ??s appointment â?? GFA's ExCO member, Frederick Acheampong
Frederick Acheampong, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says he is hoping government will accept and welcome the appointment of Winfried Schfer.The countrys football governing body has confirmed the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner with Cameroon as the technical advisor and technical director for the Black Stars and Ghana FA respectfully.The decision was made to improve the technical team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which resume in March later this year having missed out on the 2025 AFCON tournament for the first time in two decades.Speaking in an interview, Acheampong revealed that even though they did not consult government before making the appointment, they are hoping Schfers appointment will be welcomed.We are yet to meet the Sports Minister [Kofi Adams] but we know he is a strong and straightforward person, he told Asempa FM.Winfried Schfers role is very important for the team and the Ghana Football Association [GFA] so we are ready to support if government cannot his salary, he added.Additionally, Desmond Offei, the current head coach of the Black Satellites, has been promoted to the Black Stars' technical bench as an assistant coach, replacing German Joseph Laumann.Offei will join assistants John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, who will continue in their roles under Otto Addo.Kris Perquy will serve as the team's psychologist, while Gregory De Grauwe will take on the role of video analyst.
