The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured that the service will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in violence at various Stadia are held accountable.He said this after confirming the arrest of two more individuals in connection with the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.This brings the total number of arrests to five, following violent incidents during Asante Kotokos match against Nsoatreman FC last Sunday in Nsoatre.Speaking at a crucial meeting between the Police Administration and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at the Police Headquarters, Dr. Dampare reiterated the polices unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding football as a peaceful sport.We have arrested five people, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in violence are held accountable. We must all rise up to the responsibility of ensuring that football is enjoyed in a safe and peaceful environment. We owe it to the people of this country and to humanity to make football a game that brings joy and excitement, not death and destruction, the IGP said.He further emphasised the polices proactive approach, noting that beyond responding to incidents, they would implement preventive measures to curb violence at football matches.GFA Executive Member Fred Acheampong extended his condolences to Nana Pooleys bereaved family and called for immediate action to strengthen security in football.We must take immediate steps to ensure that our stadiums are safe for everyoneplayers, supporters, and officials alike. This tragic incident should serve as a wake-up call for all of us, Acheampong said.He also commended the IGP for his rapid response and urged a thorough review of security protocols at football venues.
