Stadium security expert blames lack of search regimes for rising hooliganism in Ghana football
CAF stadium security expert, Nick Owusu, has linked the rise of hooliganism in Ghanaian football to the absence of proper search procedures at match venues.Concerns over stadium violence have resurfaced following the tragic incident in Nsoatre, where Nsoatreman FCs match against Asante Kotoko on Sunday, February 2, was marred by violence, leading to the death of Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, also known as Pooley.Despite Nsoatreman securing a 1-0 victory, the post-match chaos at Nana Koromansah II Stadium has sparked discussions on security lapses.Speaking on Joy News' AM Sports, Owusu emphasised how weak security measures allow dangerous objects to be brought into stadiums.What search regimes are put in place? he questioned. You go to matches, and then you find people bringing all manner of things into the stadium, things that can be used as a weapon if tensions rise.He further stressed the need for stringent security checks.In fact, how would somebody be able to take a knife or a glass or anything that can be used as a weapon even in and around the stadium?In response to the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended this weekends Premier League matches.
