Atlanta United break MLS transfer record with $24M signing of Cote d'Ivoire's Emmanuel Latte Lath
Atlanta United have smashed the Major League Soccer transfer record by signing Ivorian forward Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough for a reported fee of $22 million to $24 million, including add-ons.The 26-year-old completed his medical in London on Monday before traveling to finalize the deal with the MLS side. His transfer eclipses the previous record set earlier this month when FC Cincinnati paid $16.2 million for Kevin Denkey from Cercle Brugge.Latte Lath had been on the radar of several Premier League and European clubs before Atlanta United secured his services. The Ivorian joined Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023 and made an immediate impact, scoring 18 goals in his debut season. This campaign, he has netted 11 times in 29 Championship appearances, playing a key role in Middlesbroughs push for Premier League promotion. Before moving to England, Latte Lath enjoyed a breakout season at Swiss side St. Gallen in 2022-23, scoring 16 goals.Despite early struggles for first-team opportunities at Atalanta, the forward has since emerged as a prolific attacker, earning two caps for the Ivory Coast.
