GFA Safety and Security Committee member Felix Bewu condemns death of football fan at Nsoatre
A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Safety and Security Committee, Felix Bewu has strongly condemned the tragic death of football fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, known as Pooley, during last Sunday's Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC at the Nana Koranmansah Park in Nsoatre.The incident, which occurred in the latter stages of the second half, has sent shockwaves through the football community. Mr. Bewu expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that such violence has no place in football.Football should be played in a safe and respectful environment, free from violence, assaults, and intimidation, he stated. We cannot afford to lose lives over the game. It is crucial that we foster an atmosphere of enjoyment and safety for all involved.He also reminded stakeholders of the importance of adhering to safety measures, particularly as the May 9th anniversary looms as a stark reminder of the tragic events that have marred the sport in the past.The May 9th anniversary should not only be a day to remember those we lost, but also a powerful reminder to us all to strictly follow safety protocols and regulations, Mr. Bewu added.The GFA Safety and Security Committee member urged clubs and stakeholders to diligently observe match day safety guidelines to curb hooliganism and ensure a secure environment at league centers.He assured of the committees continued commitment to improving security for league matches and called on all stakeholders to work together to make football safer.Mr. Bewu concluded by expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of Francis Yaw Frimpong and the Asante Kotoko fraternity.
