Kudjoe Fianoo calls for government action amid growing political influence in Ghana football
Former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Chairman, Kudjoe Fianoo, has raised concerns about the growing influence of politicians in football, warning that it has caused deep divisions within the game.Speaking on Sporty FM, Fianoo pointed out that political interference has led to factionalism, with some clubs relegated due to the political affiliations of their owners.The influx of politicians in our football has led to factionalism. Some clubs have been relegated just because their owners belong to party A or B, he explained.Fianoo also urged the government to take a more active role in the Ghana Premier League, especially following the tragic death of a supporter during the Nsoatreman vs. Asante Kotoko match.Government has to be concerned about the Ghana Premier League because a Ghanaian has lost his life, he added.His comments come amid growing calls for reform in Ghanaian football, with rising concerns over the safety and integrity of the league.In response to the recent violence, the Ghana Football Association has suspended the league and called an emergency meeting with clubs and supporters groups.Kotoko are contemplating a boycott of the league following the death of their fan, while Nsoatreman FC is reported to have submitted a withdrawal letter amid the arrest of their owner, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah.
