JE Sarpong calls Black Stars technical shake-up an act of desperation
Veteran coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has voiced his concerns over the Ghana Football Associations (GFA) decision to revamp the Black Stars technical team. The changes, which include the appointment of Winfried Schafer as Technical Advisor and Director of Football, have sparked debate within Ghanas football circles.JE Sarpong believes the move is reactionary rather than strategic. The people listed are they going to play the World Cup or what that is a complete team. it is an act of desperation they are acting under desperation that is they should have contacted stakeholders who have knowledge in football, he told Peace FM as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com.It is not that we don't know anything during CK Gyamfi's time we said they were kolo they were not using laptops they were not using computers but they brought cups to Ghana and we were all happy, he added. The GFA, in its official statement, justified the overhaul by citing a thorough review of last years Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. However, Sarpong remains skeptical about the approach, questioning the necessity of such an extensive backroom staff. The inclusion of a video analysis unit led by Belgian analyst Gregory De Grauwe and a sports psychologist in Kris Perquy suggests a push for modernization. With Otto Addo at the helm, supported by Desmond Ofei as assistant coach, the pressure is now on the new technical team to prove that the restructuring is more than just a desperate gamble.
