The Kadjebi District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its public sensitisation campaign aimed at protecting citizens—especially young people—against the growing menace of online fraud.
As part of the initiative, the Directorate has targeted Junior High School (JHS) students with carefully crafted messages intended to equip them with basic digital safety skills.
The students are also expected to share the information with their parents and siblings at home, extending the impact of the campaign beyond the classroom.
Addressing pupils of the Kadjebi E.P JHS on Wednesday, December 3, Ms Delight Ama Serwaa Akey, Principal Civic Education Officer, cautioned the students against falling for deceptive online advertisements, particularly those involving the sale of goods on social media platforms.
She urged them to verify the authenticity of websites and online vendors before engaging in any transactions. “Be careful about people who claim to sell products online. Always verify the websites to avoid being duped,” she advised.
Ms Akey further warned the students against responding to suspicious phone calls, especially those promising quick profits or money-doubling schemes.
She noted that online and mobile-related fraud remains a serious challenge nationwide, disclosing that reports indicated that victims lost about GH¢2.4 million to online fraud in the first quarter of 2024, a figure that rose to GH¢4.4 million in the same period of 2025—representing an increase of about 83 per cent.
She encouraged students to pass on the knowledge to their parents and siblings, particularly those engaged in mobile money operations, stressing that they are often prime targets of fraudsters.
Mr Samuel Drah, Headteacher of Kadjebi E.P. JHS, commended the NCCE team for the education session and appealed for more such engagements to help safeguard the community against rising cybercrime.
He said the school was committed to collaborating with institutions that promote the welfare and security of students.
