Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has stated that selecting players for next year’s World Cup will be a stern task for him given the wide pool of talent at his disposal.
The Black Stars of Ghana qualified for next year’s World Cup to be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico after topping Group I of the qualifiers.
Ghana wrapped up their qualification campaign with an impressive 1-0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Otto Addo said he had about eight months to monitor and choose players to represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“You know, we have a lot of good players at the moment, especially up front. It’s really, really difficult. And yeah, we have like eight months to observe, to look, to make the right decisions,” Otto Addo said.
Notwithstanding the difficulties of player selection, Otto Addo believes the upcoming friendly games would help evaluate the players and make good choices.
“We have some friendly games where I hope that a lot of players can show themselves. But at the moment, we have good players around.
“Even some good players have still not been called yet, so it will be interesting. And this is a difficult part for me. But I think the present is the best situation for Ghana.
“Everybody’s hungry to go to the World Cup. Everybody’s playing out their best. And I hope that the boys keep scoring, keep defending well so that they make the decision difficult for me,” he said.
After securing qualification, the Black Stars are expected to play some friendlies in the next international window in November, 2025 with unconfirmed matches as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
