

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set Tuesday, September 2, 2025, for the conduct of the By-Election in the Akwatia Constituency.
The seat became vacant following the death of Ernest Kumi, the Member of Parliament for the area, on the 7th of July (this month.)
A statement signed and issued by Mrs Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, on Wednesday, said the conduct of the By-Election was in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended.
Nominations for prospective candidates for the election, it said, was scheduled for August 11 to August 13, between the 0900 hours to 1200 hours and 1400 hours to 1700 hours daily, at the Demkyembour District Office of the Commission.
“The filing fee is GH¢10,000.00 per candidate,” it said, adding that female and persons with disability (PWDs) were expected to pay GH¢7,500.00.
Interested candidates are required to download the Nomination Forms from the Commission’s website from July 30 to August 13, 2025.
“A prospective Candidate may personally deliver or cause to be delivered on his/her behalf, by either the Proposer or Seconder of his/her nomination, the completed nomination forms to the Returning Officer at the Denkyembour District Office of the Commission on the dates and times stated above,” the statement said.
The nomination forms for each candidate should be witnessed by the signature or mark of two registered voters as Proposer and Seconder, and supported by 18 other registered voters in the Constituency as assenting to the Nominations, it said.
Additionally, the nomination forms should be endorsed with the candidate’s consent to the nomination.
“A Candidate shall at the time of submitting his/her completed Nomination Forms, provide the Returning Officer with two (2) copies of a recent post card (bust sized) photograph against a red background, showing his/her full face and ears,” the EC said .
“All completed Nomination Forms are expected to be delivered in quadruplicate.”
