After waiting for almost two days after the close of voting on December 7, 2024, the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa eventually announced the final certified results of the elections and declaring former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winner of the 2024 presidential elections with more than 6.3 million total votes (6,328,397).
In his second return, Mahama has effectively beaten Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is also the incumbent Vice-President with 1.67 million votes. By that margin the NDC has won the presidential election by 56.55 per cent.
The results according to the EC are from 267 constituencies from all the 16 regions of the country, excluding nine constituencies. The results from the nine constituencies she says have not been received due to offices of the EC in those constituencies being besieged.
Dr Bawumia received 4.6 million votes (4,657,304) which is 41.61%. Dr Bawumia yesterday December 8, conceded defeat, called Mahama and congratulated him.
According to the EC, there are 18,774,159 registered voters, and total valid votes cast was 11,432,401. The total valid votes were 11,191,422 and there were 239,109 rejected ballots.
The other parties and independent presidential candidates got the rest of the votes.
