We agree with the remarks of a concerned Ghanaian when he said “there is too much hypocrisy and double standards in this country.”
A few days ago, a newspaper proprietor added his voice to the others regarding the politicised or polarised appointments being made by President John Dramani Mahama.
Kwesi Pratt Jnr spoke a lot on the subject of ‘appointments based on politics rather than merit.’
Of course such remarks and the use of harsh words like ‘stupid’ to describe the President’s actions made the headlines because of the originator who is a known pro-establishment supporter. Many asked ‘what has changed?’ until they spotted that ‘if ever the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should come to power again, one will need a party card to be made a medical officer.’
Kwesi had earlier said that Ghana does not belong to President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his reaction to the employment opportunities being restricted to only NDC supporters.
Was Kwesi Pratt in this country when President Mills removed Prof. Frimpong Boateng as head of the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital not on any stated misbehaviour but simply because he was not aligned to his political philosophy?
We have heard about Kwesi Pratt’s ranting or frustrations but come to think of it, he is a beneficiary of this same political mentality; his daughter serves in this government at the Presidency; thanks to the magnanimity of Ghanaian voters on December 7, based on their belief in John Mahama’s message to reset Ghana. Some commentators expressed worry about the intention of John Mahama, but the majoritarian rule prevailed as against the national interest.
Kwesi, as is typical of him, tried to be on the side of the masses, but some of us have read through this great deception and we say, “Kwesi cry your own cry”. Some commentators find it hard to “commiserate” with Kwesi Pratt because the likes of him try to project a semblance of neutrality to hoodwink the masses when in actual fact they champion their preferred political persuasion under the guise of neutrality. Such characters have quickly surfaced under this dispensation, scrambling for the spoils of the December 7, 2024 ‘war’ from another mafia gang that has assumed power.
Some of these appointees never during the electioneering period discourses declared to belong to any political party; the tone of their narratives showed their preferences.
These characters include Prof. Ransford Gyampo, Adam Bonna and a host of other so-called neutrals serving in various capacities under the current Mahama/Jane Naana administration. It is for this reason that we beg them to spare us their cry on ‘Neutrals and the Politics of Convenience’.
Then Candidate President Mahama promised the people heaven in Ghana, and the people deserve to be impatient about the unfulfilled promises even as the honeymoon period is yet to be exhausted. As to whether the new John Mahama administration will be different from his previous from July 2012 to January 7, 2017, history will be the right judge. But from where we sit, there is so much venom and vindictiveness in this new regime that they have already “reset” Ghana towards the wrong direction and not the Ghana we all deserve.
