Ransford Gyampo
With a few days to Election 2024, some characters have suddenly turned into wolves but disguised in sheep skin.
Many think-tanks or civil society groups have emerged purporting to be concerned about our development challenges.
Although aligned like Ransford Gyampo, who was seen in an exciting mood in his car singing an NDC song, these so-called independent commentators are promoting issues to advance the chances of the NDC in the December 7 elections. And because of where these academics, civil society groups are coming from, the ordinary citizens have always believed people such as Joshua Ansah of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ransford Gyampo of University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and Kenneth Ashigbey of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey are on the side of the downtrodden.
In fact in this latest anti-illegal mining fight, these characters are working for John Mahama and the NDC. We have always premised our arguments on the fact that ever since videos of John Mahama, Kwaku Boahen and Tony Aubyn became public knowledge with them encouraging illegal miners, these groups; Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Organised Labour, UTAG, a shadowy group like the National Association of Fetish Priests, some chiefs and pastors as well as the National Catholic Bishops Conference have not called out these NDC leaders for their reckless actions.
It is as if these groups have met in “conclave” somewhere to take the decision to put fire on President Akufo-Addo to end galamsey now. Also, the messy way the botched galamsey strike was organised and the way the more discerning unions disengaged only showed how desperate Joshua Ansah was to mislead workers to revolt against the government in the name of anti-galamsey fight, but in real terms it was part of the NDC’s campaign strategy.
Journalists are at liberty to make inferences or interpretations, but we are minded by the facts and evidence.
Organised Labour misguided its membership into thinking that the galamsey fight was genuine. It was a grand deception clothed in a national cause, but those behind the crusade are simply traitors. Having been caught pants down, these civil society groups have started talking about videos circulating about Kwaku Boahen and John Mahama.
We are saying that the anti-galamsey crusaders decided to ignore the root causes of the menace, but went after the soft spot who is the NPP regime, especially in an election year.
We have said it before but we reiterate again, whether the groups who claim to be advocates of anti-illegal mining have ever mentioned galamsey kingpins such as Joseph Yamin, Kwaku Boahen, Joana Gyan and other NDC leaders, but they have made Chairman Wontumi a chewing stick, although he is not involved in illegal mining.
While the civil society groups have launched a campaign to expose those behind illegal mining, we have elected to expose those doing so for personal gain.
We have resolved to expose the next negative agenda of the NDC, who we are told met last Wednesday night to find new ways to make the NPP unpopular and create an ungovernable situation in the country.
The NDC knows what is at stake in the forthcoming elections and are ready to pay anything for power. We are told the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, is the bankroller of the party and has also resolved to do whatever it takes to regain power.
Let the NPP and NDC flagbearers make a public commitment to fight against galamsey in the event that any of them becomes President after the December 7 elections.
In all these, we urge the National Security to tighten all grey areas that have given the trouble makers the leeway to misbehave like what culminated in the arrest of about 18 protesters last week.
Nonetheless, we serve notice that since John Mahama and his NDC in cahoot with civil society groups have decided to shoot indiscriminately, we shall put the radar on their actions, anywhere and everywhere until the last ballot is cast on December 7 and counted for the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission to declare the legitimate winner of the polls, representing the will of the people.
