Charterhouse, organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards, now known as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, has announced that this year’s edition of the much-anticipated awards ceremony will take place on June 1, 2024.
This was announced at the official launch of this year’s event at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The launch was also used to unveil the nominees list as the headline sponsors of the event.
The event attracted a large number of personalities which include stakeholders in the music industry as well as music fans.
The nominee announcement and 25th-anniversary launch of the awards scheme witnessed some musical performances from the legendary Nat Brew, Piesie Esther, Celestine Donkor, Olivetheboy, Banzy Banero, Boasiako, and Fra.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charterhouse, Theresa Ayoade, highlighted the significant growth observed over the 25 years since the inception of the award ceremony.
“It has been an incredible journey of honouring, celebrating, and recognising the entire music industry. We have created an event that has become iconic and the most anticipated in Ghana,” she stated.
Theresa Ayoade emphasised that through the music awards ceremony, Ghanaian artistes have been propelled into the spotlight as prominent figures across Africa and the world.
She noted that the Ghana Music Awards have become a yardstick for measuring success in Ghanaian artistes’ musical careers, providing them with bragging rights and prestige that enhance their value as artistes, as well as serve as strong promotional tools that solidify their journey.
“As this year marks our anniversary year, it is a special one with a series of activities planned to celebrate our music industry. We extend our congratulations to all nominated artistes for the 25th Ghana Music Awards,” she remarked.
This year’s nomination categories covers a diverse range of musical styles and achievements, from Best Male Artiste to Best New Artiste, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, among others.
Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Nacee, Stonebwoy among others have been nominated for Artiste of the Year award.
Another category that will be keenly contested will be the New Artiste of the Year, which will have the likes of King Paluta, Maya Blu, DSL, Banzy Banero, Olivetheboy, and Oseikrom Sikanii.
In the field of gospel, the likes of Nacee, Diana Hamilton, Joyce Blessing, Mabel Okyere, Perez Musik, Piesie Esther, Joe Mettle, and Scott Evans are in contention for Best Gospel Artiste of the Year.
