The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr John Peter Amewu, has directed Seven Sea Salt Company, the salt mining entity at the centre of the clashes at Adina in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, to stop drawing underground water for its operations with immediate effect.

The campaign against illegal mining (galamsey) has begun bearing fruits, as some miners in the Western Region have voluntarily turned in their excavators. According to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr John Peter Amewu, the government had so far received more than 75 excavators. "This is a good sign that the campaign against illegal mining across the country is yielding results," he said at the launch of the ‘Stop Galamsey Now’

Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, otherwise called galamsey, is not a witch-hunt of Chinese but a fight to stop wrongdoing and save the environment, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.

A 20-year-old Virginia Commonwealth University student was killed overnight in the Carver neighborhood, adjacent to the university. Samuel Kwarteng, from Alexandria, Va., was shot and killed during an altercation off campus in the 1200 block of W. Moore Street, VCU President Michael Rao announced. Kwarteng resided in the 1700 block of Jacqulin Street, according to police, and the suspect charged with involuntary manslaughter resided at the Moore St. home.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has given assurance that government will not lay-off workers under the International Monitoring Fund (IMF) programme although it has committed itself to completing the programme.
