Action Movement (AM), a pressure group sympathetic to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for the immediate dismissal of some party bigwigs.
The immediate past Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; his deputy, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu; and the Director of Communication at the Presidency in the last government, Mr Stan Dogbe, must be dismissed for contributing to the defeat of the party’s 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the group said.
Dismissal
The Spokesperson for AM, Mr Kodzo Hamenya Keglo, noted that if the above bigwigs were dismissed from the party, it would pave the way for the party to win the 2020 election.
At a press conference organised by AM last week Wednesday in Accra, the group said, “If they remain in our party, we cannot win power in 2020 because they were only enjoying power and did not do what was expected of them, while a lot of their actions contributed to the fall of the party. Since we want to win the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, they must be dismissed to bring the right people on board to work,” he said.
Expressing bitterness, he further mentioned some names including the Greater Accra Regional Campaign Coordinator, Mr Sylvester Mensah, a former Deputy Chief of Staff, Madam Valerie Sawyer, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Ekow Spio Garbrah, for contributing to the fall of the party.
Immediate congress
Mr Keglo revealed that Mr Mensah was in a hurry for the Presidential Candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, to exit, for him to begin his 2020 presidential ambition.
He pointed out that the group wanted Mr Mensah to tell members why his administrators went to the collation centres with bare hands, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in opposition came to the collation centres with five laptops for each constituency with modems and other gadgets.
“How can John Dramani Mahama give responsibility to someone who has ambition to be President in 2020 to handle a sensitive region such as Greater Accra in 2016? If Sylvester could not work for us to win one region, how can he win the entire country for the NDC in 2020?” he asked.
In the quest to win the 2020 election, Mr Keglo called for an immediate regional congress of the party to address some of the pressing issues in the party before the national congress.
“We work at the grass roots and we are for the betterment of the party not any individual and what we want is to win the 2020 elections. Therefore, the party should prepare adequately for victory in that election,” he reiterated.
Delta Force
Condemning the actions of the Delta Force, an executive member, Mr Emmanuel Tetteh, lauded the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyepong, for being bold to tell politicians that they cannot use the grass roots people and dump them.
“We want to emphasise that the AM do not hate anybody and will never work for any individual but channel our strengths and might towards victory in 2020 for any candidate our party will present for the election,” he said.
Mr Tetteh appealed to the grass roots who worked hard so many years without help, opportunities and recognition to continue to do their best to win the 2020 election.
