A 16-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been inaugurated by the University for Development Studies (UDS) with the responsiblity of planning next January’s Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games in Tamale.
The inauguration ceremony was performed by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, at the UDS International Conference Centre in Tamale last Tuesday.
Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan will chair the committee, with Dr A.B.T Zakariah, Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, Ing. Samuel Abiko, John Azure, Prof. Juventus Ziem, Prof. Israel Dzomeku, Dr Sylvester Z. Galaa, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, Saaka Shaibu, Alhassan Baako, Ayuba Ibrahim, Jackson Awuni Abani, Michael Akanzaawie, SRC President, and the SRC Sports chairperson as members.
Mr Nyantakyi, urged UDS to emulate the initiative by the University of Ghana to introduce sports-related programmes and pledged the GFA’s unflinching support for university sports in general.
He, entreated UDS to seize the opportunity as hosts of the Games to emerge winners.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of UDS and chairman of the LOC, Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan, observed that education and sports were inseparable and that the latter had proved to be a very effective tool for developing, uniting, and inspiring people.
He expressed satisfaction with management’s efforts towards developing sports in UDS, noting that the establishment of a sports directorate and the subsequent appointment of Ibrahim Tanko as the Director of Sports demonstrated the commitment of management.
